Mobile Financial Services: The Market Today & Opportunities for Tomorrow

The inaugural comScore State of Mobile Financial Services Report provides an in-depth look at the potential opportunity for mobile across the financial services industry, including an overview of the current U.S. mobile market, and deep dives into the banking and credit card markets to highlight key opportunities. This report leverages multiple comScore data services to provide the most holistic view of the mobile financial services customers available today. Data is derived from comScore’s extensive Mobilens Survey, Mobile Metrix and the comScore Online Panel.

This report will provide an overview of the U.S. mobile telecoms market and the mobile media environment as a key subset. The report with then provide a deep dive into the current state of the mobile financial services market, highlighting critical marketing opportunities based on demographics and usage patterns, and revealing how mobile users are engaging with mobile financial services sites and features.

This report will show how three interdependent factors are driving adoption of this channel. The three factors are:

  • Proliferation of smartphone devices
  • Deployment of high bandwidth (3G) networks and all-you-can-eat data plans
  • A vibrant application ecosystem

The fundamental difference from the mobile banking platforms from earlier in the decade is a rich user experience, which is likely to lead to the ubiquitous growth of the channel. While mobile as a channel will continue to grow rapidly, its success at individual firms depends on their ability to develop a compelling value proposition that seamlessly integrates the unique capabilities of mobile with the strengths of the other channels, particularly the Internet.
