Palmsource IP Finds a Real Home
Posted September 09, 2005 at 11:46 AM by Seamus McAteer

The ACCESS acquisition of PalmSource makes sense. ACCESS garners an extensive portfolio of IP that includes handset UI, synchronization, and Linux technologies; development teams in China (from PalmSource's acquisition of China Mobilesoft) and the U.S.; and new relationships with ODMs and OEMs outside Japan. ACCESS has the management team with experience to effectively compete with the likes of Teleca, Openwave, and TTPCom to provide a roadmap for handset software stacks. PalmSource management was clearly struggling with making the transition from owning a category defining platform to operating in an altogether different and more competitive business of embedded mobile handset software.
